’Twas the night before Talluah’s birthday and people had gathered at our humble abode to celebrate and partake in our first asado. The asado is generally translated to a BBQ but there is a big difference between the BBQs we are used to and how the Argentine’s do it. The main difference is that you cook with coals instead of flame and the meat is cooked for about 40 minutes on each side at a low temperature. The rule is, low and slow. Another main difference is that the cuts of meat are more varied than the Australian BBQ. A traditional asado also includes many parts of the beast that live deep within the beast. Ours wasn’t so traditional. While we admire the nose to tail philosophy, we generally only like to eat muscle.
Talluah manages to balance to run a house in a foreign country, teach English at the school, learn Spanish
through the Whatsapp chats all while doing exceedingly well at her psychology
degree as a distance student. She
influences us all to be the best people we can be and look for the joy in every
day. The children are lucky to have her
for a mum and I am eternally grateful that she is my wife.
